My vision is simple: The goal is to make Wake County, North Carolina financially strong, prosperous, and inclusive for all its residents. I believe that by empowering micro and small business owners, addressing affordable housing challenges in urban areas, and creating inviting greenways, parks, and recreation areas, we can create a thriving community where everyone has the opportunity to succeed and enjoy a high quality of life.
1. Empowering Micro and Small Business Owners:
• Small Business Incubators: Establishing small business incubators in strategic locations across Wake County to provide resources, mentoring, and affordable workspaces to aspiring entrepreneurs.
• Access to Capital: Expanding access to low-interest loans and grants for micro and small business owners, especially those from underserved communities, to kickstart their ventures or expand existing ones.
• Local Procurement Initiatives: Encouraging local government agencies to prioritize procuring goods and services from micro businesses (special efforts to include, Veteran Owned Business) in Wake County, fostering growth and sustainability.
• Business Education Programs: Implementing workshops, seminars, and online resources to educate entrepreneurs about essential business skills, such as marketing, finance, and operations.
2. Restoring Affordable Housing in Urban Areas:
• Affordable Housing Initiatives: Collaborating with local developers, nonprofits, and community organizations to create more affordable housing units in urban areas while preserving the unique character of these neighborhoods.
• Rent Control and Tenant Protections: Advocating for responsible rent control measures and tenant protection policies to ensure that housing remains affordable for all residents.
• Public-Private Partnerships: Exploring partnerships with private sector developers to incentivize the construction of affordable housing units through tax credits and land-use policies.
• Community Land Trusts: Promoting community land trusts to empower residents to have a stake in the development and management of affordable housing in their neighborhoods.
3. Creating Inviting Greenways, Parks, and Recreation Areas:
• Expanding Greenways: Developing and expanding greenway trails throughout Wake County, connecting neighborhoods, providing safe walking and biking options, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
• Enhancing Parks: Investing in the renovation and maintenance of existing parks, as well as the creation of new parks in underserved areas, to ensure residents have access to recreational spaces.
• Community Engagement: Collaborating with local organizations and citizens to identify specific needs and preferences for greenways and recreation areas to make them more inclusive and appealing to all residents.
